Gaia Awakens

Spring has certainly sprung.

While the onset of Spring may be a month away on the secular calendar, Mother nature is certainly awakening from her Winter slumber.

We we still have plenty of cold Winter days ahead, but beautiful warm mornings like today lift the spirits and remind us that Spring has already donned her cloak.

A Visit From Chicken Hawk

I had a visit from this guy this morning.

He made for a good model, as he even stayed in place long enough for me to run inside and get my camera, then get several good shots of him.

This is a Chicken Hawk.

They are often seen around here, but usually they are in the air, circling above the paddocks looking for mice.

Look at that curved beak, it is made for tearing apart his prey.

Full Moon Magick

Merry Esbat Witches and Pagans!

It is currently 10.30pm and I am waiting for my Daughter to finish her shift at work, so I can go and pick her up and start my ritual.

I get very restless when ritual time is drawing near.

That is a good thing though, as it makes raising energy in the circle that much easier.

It is very cloudy here tonight and though I can’t see the moon, I can certainly feel her lunar energy!

Here are some photos of full moons past, as getting one tonight is impossible.

Merry meet!

A Splash Of Colour

There are so many birds around at the moment, that they have been the focus of my posts this last week.
I think it has to do with the extraordinary amount of rain we have this winter, it is bringing out birds of all kinds.

This morning I was greeted with the joyful sight of these two, having a pick through the cut grass outside my kitchen window.
I took these photos through the window, and lucky that I did, as when I tried to go outside and get a bit closer, they flew away.

These beautiful birds are Rosellas.
They are native to my area, but quite elusive, and very hard to photograph, as they spook easily.

Birds Of A Feather

I have posted before about Magpies appearing to me lately, but now it appears to be birds in general.

Not sure what is going on here, it could be a migration.

It was pretty impressive, not to mention noisy, when I got a visit from this flock.

Birds of a feather certainly do flock together!

Accolades of Instagram

If you use Instagram, you will understand the concept of being featured.
If not, being featured means your photo is posted by one of the big ‘hub’ profiles, and shared to a large audience.

My aim has been AJ-Graveyards.
This profile posts the best graveyard pictures posted to their hash tag that day.
Today was my day, and my first feature!
I am so excited about this, it is a recognition of my growing photographic skills and, hopefully, I will gain a few new followers in the bargain.

Thanks a bunch AJ_Graveyards!

Messages From The Natural World

During the last few days, I have been noticing an abundance of Magpies around my home.
This is likely due to the plentiful rain we have been receiving, but no matter the cause, these birds have just drawn my attention more than usual.
I have already shared with you, in my last post, my emotional connection to Magpies, so I won’t go into it again here, but in these past days, I have felt their presence even more than I usually do.

I like to spend time at the local cemetary.
I take my dog and my camera, walk around the graveyard, photographing graves that catch my eye and just enjoying the peace that only being around the dead can bring.
I am also usually hunting for that stunning headstone shot!
Today, I got that shot, actually, I got many, and will post some up here over the next few days.
(You can also follow my Instagram, which is displayed down the left-side menu, where I post most of my cemetary photos).
During today’s expedition, we were accompanied by quite a few Maggies.

Magpies are featuring in quite a number of my best shots lately.

During these times of feeling connection to a particular animal, or noticing larger numbers around than is usual, there is likely a reason for this, and it is worth looking into and giving it some consideration.
The animal in question has a message for you.
This could be something that is very direct, and can be felt, sensed or even heard.
More often than not, it will require a little research and digging on your part.

This is taken from an app named ‘Power Animals’:

This description is very applicable to my life right now, with a heavy focus on magick, ritual and daily practice.
Could it be that the magpie is signalling that I am on the right path?
This lovely black and white bird is certainly giving me its blessing for the way I am doing things at this point in time.

It amazes me every day, the things that can be learned from the natural world.
If you are open to it, so many things can be seen, heard, leant and intuited from the earth and the animals that come to us.
In Wicca, nature is not only our church, it is also our teacher.

Magpies and Memories

We get a lot of Magpies come to visit.
They can be hard to photograph, because they don’t stay in the one place for too long.
But occasionally I am lucky enough to get a good picture.

They seem to really enjoy the rain and can often be seen frolicking in a downpour.

I have a soft spot for these birds.
Before my Pop, Sonny, died, he used to feed them every morning, without fail.

He had a few special ones which he had named.
One had the moniker of ‘Beakless’, having lost most of his beak somewhere along the way.
Pop’s daily feeds were probably the only thing that kept that bird alive.

It got so that the backyard was getting a bit overrun by magpies, and these birds were bold!
They would even pinch food off your plate at barbecues!
My daughter was very young then, but she soon learnt not to take food outside, unless she wanted the magpies to get it.

Now, every time I see them, I always spare a thought to that amazing man.
I miss you, Pop.
