This combination of Four of Swords and The Empress could well relate to this time of year, autumn, here in Australia. The Four of Swords is rest, peace, down time. The Empress is a mother, nurturer, Goddess of the Harvest. During Autumn, the Goddess grows old, withdraws her abundance and growth from the earth. In spring, she returns, bright, young and rejuvenated.
For us mere mortals, Mum needs a rest! Putting other people’s needs before your own is a part of life for mothers. Especially when young children and animals are involved. But this constant giving of yourself can wear you down. The Four of Swords is a reminder to give yourself some time out to care for yourself. If you can manage to swing a weekend away with the girls, great, go for it. Otherwise, go to the movies, get your hair done.
Whatever you can manage, don’t feel guilty about it! Everyone will benefit from a rejuvenated you. You can’t give of yourself when there is nothing left to give. Put yourself first for once and do something just for you.
